A Unique Perspective

At first glance, most people have no idea what this is. It's an interesting form and a beautiful blue, but what is it? Well, it's the Gateway Arch in St. Louis, MO.

As I took the time to walk around the arch, taking it in from different points of view, I noticed how much the arch, though a simple form, changed. I find it interesting how something can take on a whole new look when we make the effort to view it from another perspective.

The Cross and the Sun

Though I have mixed emotions about religious architecture, I like how the architect elevated the cross so very high; so high that it towers over everything else. The whole composition points us upwards, beyond ourselves, to the God of heaven. But the cross reminds us that this same God came near in Christ.

Two Columns

An old, abandoned house in Longview, Texas, USA. The worn but stately columns caught my eye and the upward view seems to hint at the once majestic residence.

Rooftop Lanterns

This is the Grand Rapids Art Museum.

I also like this architectural feature--sadly there's not much more to admire about the exterior of this building. However, it is a good place to view art. Now if they'd just get rid of that silly, gargantuan blue thing in the lobby.

Peacock Feather

Same as the earlier image, but this time blue is isolated. Not as striking an effect as the green, but it's cool in its own right.

Two Tulips

Spring time tulips in our yard. This low angle of view allows the sun to illuminate the petals, making the yellow stand out against the blue sky.

Flouride Sculpture

Grand Rapids Michigan was the first city in the world to fluoridate its water. The sculpture commemorates that fact.

With the attractive JW Marriott hotel as a back drop it makes an interesting photo of a downtown Grand Rapids landmark.

Three Trees

A simple study in color to see the impact on the same image. It feels as if we've moved from a clear sunny day to a terrible storm. It comes off kinda cool.
